Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge
One of the most famous state parks in Georgia is the Amicalola Falls State Park. In the interior of the park, one can find a fall of 729 feet. This park houses a campground, a lodge, a conference center and a restaurant. A rope course is offered in this park. The various activities that are carried in this park are hiking, fishing, picnicking and interpretive programs. The park office has many nature displays and exhibits.
Dahlonega Gold Museum
The Dahlonega Gold Museum tries to explain the history of mining in Georgia by throwing light on gold coins, lives of prospectors and mining techniques. This museum exists in the 19th century Lumpkin County courthouse which is constructed using local bricks along with traces of gold. This museum is commemorative of the first gold rush in the United States. Visitors can see gold panning equipment and gold nuggets. There is also a gift shop and an educational film.
Chestatee Wildlife Preserve
Towards the south-east of Dahlonega, the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve is situated. Here, one can view wild animals. Intermittently, one can also see new babies.
Westville
Towards the south-west of Lumpkin exists a living history museum called as Westville. This region houses restored and relocated historical structures from this region. An ambience similar to the 1850s village is created here.
