Fort King George had served as southernmost outpost with regards to British colonies that were established in the US till the construction of Fort Frederica in the year 1736. This led to Fort King George getting abandoned in the year 1736. Various Scottish colonists went on to settle on side of old fort, thereby having named it Darien.
