The name has been inspired from ‘William Crosby Dawson’, i.e. a military and political leader. The year 1859 had marked the discovery of Dawsonville.

This place is home of Bill Elliott, one of the semi-retired drivers of NASCAR. He is better known as ‘Awesome Bill from Dawsonville’; as a homage to hometown.
