St. Simons Lighthouse Museum was founded on 17th of October, 1804. At the time of Civil War, evacuation of St. Simons Island led to destruction of this Lighthouse; so that no one could use it as navigational aid. In the year 1872, the 2nd Lighthouse was constructed as per orders placed by US Government. It functions as a museum right now.
