The First African Baptist church, located in Savannah, Georgia claims evolution of the first Black congregation in North America. It was founded by George Leile in 1861 and used to serve as part of the Underground Railroad. It serves under the national Baptist convention, USA Inc. The First African Baptist church also operates a museum which displays memorabilia dating back to the eighteenth century.
