Girdwood is a ski resort town located in the municipality of Anchorage, Alaska. It is located on the northern shore of Turnagain Arm and is bordered on three sides by the Chugah State Park and the Chugah National Forest. The area can be accessed by the Seward Highway.
 
Girdwood has around 2,000 inhabitants. Originally named ‘Glacier City’, it was founded as a gold-mining town.

Girdwood has a mild weather as compared to other parts of Alaska. It sometimes has a wet summer climate, while the weather in winter can get a bit extreme with heavy snowfall. Temperatures range from 7°C to –1°C.

Girdwood is home to the Alyeska Ski Resort—the largest ski area in Alaska. Visitors can use the resort tram to climb up to Mount Alyeska, 2,300 feet above sea level.

Girdwood’s temperate weather allows outdoor recreational activities like hiking, rock climbing and kayaking in summer, and snowboarding, skiing and dog sledding in winter.
