Harrisonburg is the seat of Rockingham County in Virginia, USA. Located in the Shenandoah Valley region, Harrisonburg is bounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Allegheny Mountains to west and covers an area of 45.6 sq km.
Settled in 1737, the city is named after its founder, Thomas Harrison. It became an independent city in 1916, and today, it is an industrial centre with a population of around 45,000.
The city has a humid climate. Summers are warm with temperatures varying between 29°C and 16°C, while winters are cold with temperature ranging from 5°C to –6°C. Spring and fall are pleasant.
Visitors can relive the rich history of the city in the downtown area, established as one of Virginia’s first Cultural Arts Districts. The Court Square Theatre is the entertainment hub of the city. With a serene landscape and hospitable locals, the city has become a popular tourist destination.
