One of the most popular attractions in Hilo is the Pana’ewa Rain Forest Zoo, credited to be the only zoo in America that is located in a rainforest. Home to several exotic as well as local animals, this zoo is a must visit.
Other places of interest include Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory, Banyan Drive, Nani Mau Gardens, Mehana Brewing Company, Island Outfitters Heli Hike, Mauna Kea State Recreation Area, Hilo Public Library, Wailuku River State Park, Subaru Telescope, Mokupapapa Discovery Center and Leleiwi Beach Park and Richardson Ocean Center.
Don’t forget to visit the Hilo Farmers Market, which was named the ‘Best Open Market’ in 1999 and 2000 by the Hawaii Tribune-Herald.
