Hawaii has an area of 29,311 sq km and a population just over 1.2 million people. The state’s capital city is Honolulu.
Hawaii is the southernmost state of the USA. It is an archipelagic state in the North Pacific Ocean and lies almost 3,700 km away from mainland America. Hawaii is the longest island chain in the world with over eight islands and atolls. All of these islands were formed by volcanoes arising from the sea floor, and they are continuing to grow in area because of active lava flows.

I LOVE MAUI!! I've visited the island (and a few more) at least 6-7 times and each time we went we learned from the friendly locals how to "cut the costs" of your trip. Unless your dead-set on room service, rent a condo! Most of them are beautifully decorated, have great staff, clean pools/hot tubs. We prefer to stay in 'lower west coast' (Kehie is our most fave. It's got that real 'locals feel' to it. Since most condos have BBQ's conveniently located to each condo we BBQ'd a lot. But better than that, have breakfasts & lunches at the condo, this way you can treat yourself to a little more expensive dinner and you pretty much break even on the food. If you can pack a few items, such as clothes soap/dryer sheets, plastic wrap, napkins, paper plates, small plastic mustard, ketcup, tuna,...

Lots of history, culture and fun in this town. You won't be bored that's for sure. Trolleys and buses make it easy to get around Honolulu itself so a car is always necessary. Food can be expensive (everything is shipped in) but deals can be found for hotels, tours and excursions.Use wise judgement and Google Maps to assist you in finding a great hotel in a safe location. Look at the area surrounding the hotel or condo. Is it well lit at night? Are there sidewalks that are open and visable? Some places may sound great but you need to look at the location by internet and see for yourself. Satellite imagery is top notch and helps out a lot!
