Volcano: Attractions and more...
The major attraction of Volcano is the Volcanoes National Park. Known for the diversity in its flora and climate, the park is the only place in USA, where visitors can hike in and watch the lava flowing from the volcano.
Regarded as the most active volcano in the world, the Kilauea Caldera, situated in this park, has been oozing lava since 1983. There have rarely been any eruptions; the lava simply pours out of its mouth slowly and continuously. Hence, hiking along the trails and watching the lava flowing has become a popular activity.
Also located in the park along the rim of the volcano is the Thomas A Jaggar Museum. Exhibits at the museum narrate the history of volcanic eruptions in Hawaii. The museum overlooks the Halema’uma’u Crater. Also of note is the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, located next to the museum.
The Volcano Winery and Cooper Center are also worth a visit. What to see in detail
