Ketchum: Attractions and more...
With its western pioneer charm, Ketchum successfully manages to draw its own share of visitors from the lure of the Sun Valley ski resort. At Main Street, one can find the streets lined with a mixture of old brick buildings, modern art galleries and cafes.
Ketchum used to be the home of the renowned American novelist Ernest Hemingway. The writer committed suicide here in 1961, and he along with his granddaughter are buried in the Ketchum Cemetery.
Some of the regional events include the ever-popular Wagon Days Festival (held at the end of August to commemorate the city’s mining history in true western style), the Food and Wine festival, the Ernest Hemingway Festival and the Rocky Mountain Music Festival.
The Sawtooth Botanical Garden was built to honour a visit from the Dalai Lama in 2005, who blessed the 5-acre garden and its dominant attraction, a-400 pound Tibetan Prayer Wheel inscribed with over a million written mantras.
