Since Moscow is a university town, there is no major highway that passes through the town and there is no major airport present as well. Visitors are advised to carry their own vehicles for sightseeing.
Most of the roads outside the city are nicely graveled and visitors are often tempted to practice dirt-driving when in the Palouse Area.
However, one should always take precautions while driving farther away as some roads are not fully graveled and end up in muddy conditions, proving hazardous to the car.
This is especially true in rainy seasons when even the well graveled roads tend to soften and cars can slip over them driving into a ditch. The rental cars are available on contract which prohibits users from practicing dirt-driving, so one should follow their rules.
If unfortunately one gets stuck on dirt-roads, it is best to take help from local car-mechanics rather than waiting for triple A services to arrive.
