Idaho Falls is the seat and largest city of Bonneville County in eastern Idaho, USA. The Snake River flows through the heart of the city (the water body is home to the waterfalls and rapids which give Idaho Falls its name). The Teton Mountain Range towers over the city and the nearby Yellowstone, the world’s first national park.
The city has a semiarid alpine climate with long, pleasant summers (average temperatures of about 27°C) and chilly winters which see the mercury levels fall below –5°C.
Idaho Falls has a population of more than 50,000 people, with the ancestral Shoshone tribe long inhabiting the area. It is a regional hub for business, health care and travel. Apart from atomic energy, tourism is an important mainstay of the economy.
The city of Ammon is often thought to be a part of Idaho Falls as the two are interconnected.
