Alton contains a large number of landmarks to visit. Among the famous landmarks include the Elijah Lovejoy Monument bestowing its historical importance and the famous Clark Bridge which is supposed to be one of its types in the world because of its glamorous construction. The bridge is well known by its nick name 'Super Bridge' because of the type of construction used for building it. There are many other historic landmarks in the city as well. One of which is the Franklin House known as the Lincoln Hotel and is the place where Abraham Lincoln had dinner and may also have slept around the middle of the eighteenth century. Because of this history there are statues of Lincoln and Douglas at the corner of the Landmark. There are many parks and theatres in the city for relaxation and entertainment. Alton Little Theater is a theater located here which was found in 1934 and also continues to produce dramatic plays, comedic plays and musicals even today.
