Batavia Public Library District
Founded in 1882, this library hosts a township library converted to a district library in 1875. This library serves a good portion of Batavia Township and some portions of Winfield Township, Geneva Township and Blackberry Township. The library has many facilities out of some opened in January 2002.
The Harold Hall Quarry Beach Park
This park is a public pool which has a former stone quarry. There are a lot of amenities in this park, to name a few Sandy Beach and Swimming area, Sand Volley Ball Courts, and a large picnic area. This park also offers Water fitness program.
Batavia Depot Museum
This museum was renovated since it was abandoned in 1854. Through the efforts of the local committee and volunteers, this museum was named after its curator and dedicated to the Batavia Park district in 1975. This building depot museum was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the year 1979.
The exhibits include the Batavia railroad history which comes alive through a permanent exhibit of Burlington and Quincy railroads established in 1850, and other railroads too. These railroad lines served the passengers until the mid 1900s when the transportation choice shifted to automobiles. Other exhibits include the railroad artifacts, the ticket agent office, the telegraph system and many more.
Timings
The Museum is open for all on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday from 1400 hours to 1600 hours. It’s also open on Thanksgivings.
