Tourist Guide Carbondale:

Situated in Jackson County in Illinois, USA, the city of Carbondale is located on the watershed of the Big Muddy River. Spread over an area of 31.3 sq km, the city has a population of 27,000.

The climate is warm during summer and very cold during winter. The average winter temperature is around 2°C while the average summer temperature is around 24°C. It receives even rainfall throughout the year.

Founded as a coal mining town by Daniel Harmon Brush, the town developed into a centre of trade and commerce after the American Civil War. Today, the economy depends on the students that study in the city’s most famous landmark, the Southern Illinois University.

It's a fun and affordable place but you need a car. Good bar hopping.
