The most famous landmarks in Carbondale are the Southern Illinois University and the area of Highway 51, commonly referred to as ‘The Strip’. This stretch of land features an array of shops, restaurants and bars.
The Southern Illinois University Museum Carbondale, boasting a collection of more than 50,000 objects and several temporary exhibits of art and historic artefacts, is an art as well as a history lover’s haven. Also of note is the African-American Museum of Southern Illinois, which commemorates the outstanding achievements of African-American citizens.
The Science Center and Children’s Museum of Southern Illinois and the Touch of Nature Environmental Center are educational, informative and ideal for children.
