The Chicago Board of Trade Building is one of Chicago’s most well recognized skyscrapers. Built in 1930 and first designated a Chicago Landmark on May 4, 1977, the building was listed as a National Historic Landmark June 2, 1978. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 16, 1978.

A three-story art deco statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of grain, tops the building. The 6,500 pound, 31 ft tall aluminum statue features the Roman goddess holding a sheaf of wheat in her left hand and a bag of corn in her right. The statue is symbolic of the exchange's heritage as a commodities market. The building is also a popular sightseeing attraction and location for shooting movies.

Visit the building on your own or take an architecture tour of Chicago’s most prominent buildings with the Chicago Architecture Foundation. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange-Chicago Board of Trade offers guided tours to groups of 10 or more.
