The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse is the only surviving lighthouse in Chicago and one of only two remaining in Illinois. This beautiful white lighthouse with the red roof was built in 1893 for the World’s Columbian Exposition and was moved to its current location, just east of the Navy Pier in Chicago’s Harbor, between 1917-1918 during the renovation of the breakwater.
A fog-signal room and a boathouse were added on opposite sides and the lighthouse, the only one in the city, still flashes a red beacon but became automated in 1979.
It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and is featured in a relief sculpture titled "The Spirit of the Waters" near the LaSalle Street entrance to City Hall.
As of yet there is no museum at the site however you can admire its beauty while enjoying the attractions of the nearby Navy Pier.
