The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, with its butterfly haven and many educational exhibits, is the perfect place to take kids. Adults with an interest in the natural worlds will also find the museum a pleasant place to spend an afternoon, but many of the exhibits are geared for a younger audience.

Interactive exhibits such as the Chicago Water Works demonstrate how the Chicago River/Lake Michigan system works while exhibits like the Wilderness Walk provide the opportunity to wander through three meticulously recreated environments native to the Midwest region.

The butterfly atrium is hands down the best exhibit within the museum and though small is filled with beautiful plants and butterflies. The humidity and warm temperature also makes it a welcome place to retreat to during the chilly Chicago winters.

The entrance fees and the gift shop prices are both very reasonable. Check the website for details on admission discounts.
