Humboldt Park located on the northwest side of Chicago is one of the city’s 77 officially designated community areas and is home to a fantastic 207-acre park.
The park is full of trails, gardens, and stunning architecture. It's a great place to go for a walk, bike ride, or for a picnic. There are many beautiful facilities on the grounds as well as several ponds and lagoons that are great for fishing. The wilder areas are especially lovely in the spring and fall.
The neighborhood surrounding the park has a strong Puerto Rican heritage and the historic Humboldt Park stables have recently been converted into the Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture. The park also has some great Puerto Rican food vendors.
There is a fantastic playground within the park as well that is always full of kids running around and parents hanging about chitchatting. The park has a nice feel to it however it does have a bit of a reputation for being a shady place and somewhat dangerous in the evenings. Though much has been done as of late to improve the area, keep your wits about you at night.
