The Magnificent Mile is Chicago’s largest shopping district, including various upscale and mid-range shops as well as restaurants and museums. It’s also home to five of the tallest buildings in the world as well as classic Chicago landmarks like the Tribune Tower and the Allerton Hotel.

This stretch of Chicago is a shopaholic’s dream. Lots of upscale shops and plenty of chains you’d find in your local mall. It can be great for people watching and there are a few lovely (but expensive) restaurants. However, unless you’re super into shopping or just looking for somewhere to aimlessly stroll around, I’d say definitely visit, but don’t plan to make a day out of it. Instead have a nice dinner nearby (restaurants in Mag Mile are pretty pricey) and spend the evening window-shopping.

During the summer stop by to see the Garden of the Magnificent Mile festival and to kick off the holiday season be sure to see the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival.
