Crystal Lake is a city which is located in southeastern side of McHenry County in northeastern Illinois. This city is named after Crystal Lake, which is 230 acre lake spread over 1.6 miles to the west-southwest of downtown.
Crystal Lake is considered as the biggest city in McHenry County. History shows that this city was originated as two separate communities in 1800s. These two communities were known as Crystal Lake and Nunda. There are many distinct neighborhoods of Crystal Lake. This city is the largest city in McHenry County with 3 high schools and many neighborhoods.
As per the 2000 census, the population of the city was 38,000.
The city experiences hot summers and cold winters, with temperature slightly more extreme than the other closer suburbs. The hottest month is July with 86 degree Fahrenheit and coolest month is January with 23 degree Fahrenheit.
