The city of Effingham is located in Effingham County in the state of Illinois, USA. This city acts as the county seat. Originally a village by the name of Broughton, Effingham received its current name in the 1850s.
This city and the county were named in honour of Lord Effingham, who served in the British Army and refused to partake in the war against the colonists in the American Revolutionary War.
The annual average temperature is around 18°C. It is best to avoid travel between the months of November and February, when the temperature is low.
Effingham has a rich history, previously being occupied by the Native Americans. The region received an economic boom with the development of the Illinois Central Railroad in the 1850s. With a population of around 12,400, most locals are engaged in commerce and industry.
