The city of Elgin is located partly in Kane County and partly in Cook County in the state of Illinois in the United States. A major portion of Elgin is situated in Kane County. The city is the 8th largest city in Illinois State.

As per the 2007census, the city is home to 101,903 people. The population of the city of Elgin is swelling at a fast rate and is expected to exceed 167,375 by the year 2030.

The city of Elgin is located in a humid continental climatic area. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are cold. Some parts of the city also experience a humid subtropical type of climate. Because of this, winters are mild in some areas.

Tourists can visit at any time in the year, however, the winter season is preferable.
