Mattoon can be described as a city located in county of Coles, Illinois, US. It’s, in fact, one of the principal cities with respect to Charleston-Mattoon Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Mattoon had been site of ‘Mad Gasser’ attacks that had taken place in 1940s.
Previous settlers from southern region resided in ‘forested areas’ along headwaters of ‘Little Wabash River’ to southwest of present town. Mattoon’s history can be traced to local railroads. On 18th of December, 2007, Mattoon had been chosen as site of US Department of Energy’s FutureGen zero emission power plant.
