Tourist Guide Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon is located in Jefferson County in the state of Illinois, USA. Zadok Casey, an American politician, founded this town around 1817, and in 1819, Mt Vernon became the county seat. The town received its name in honour of the Mt Vernon plantation home that belonged to George Washington.

The region developed economically after the arrival of the railroad. During World War II, this region was famous for its production of railroad cars.

The annual average temperature is around 19°C. It is best to avoid travel between the months of November and February, when the temperature is low.

With a population of around 16,200, most locals are engaged in commerce and industry. The region has an eclectic mix of people including a significant number of African-Americans and Hispanics.
