Tourist Guide Rock Island

Rock Island is the county seat of Rocky Island County in Illinois. The population was 39,684 as per the 2000 census. Out of this, there were 16,148 households and 9,543 families that were residing in the city. This city is the one of the Quad Cities with its neighboring cities of Moline and East Moline. Davenport and Bettendorf are also its neighboring cities. The original Rock Island from which the city got its name is the largest island in the Mississippi River and is now known by the name Arsenal Island.

As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.1 square miles, out of which 15.9 square miles is of land and the other 1.2 square miles is of water.

Chicago, Pacific Railroad and Rock Island were founded in 1851 and known as the Rock Island Line. Rock Island is also home to the Rock Island Arsenal on the Arsenal Island. It is an active factory which produces ordnance and weapons components for the US Army.
