The Rockford Park District was formed in the year 1909 and is at present governed by an elected five member of board of commissioners serving six year tenure term without any compensation. This neighborhood is the second largest municipal park system in Illinois. It serves the communities of Rockford, Illinois including New Milford, Loves Park and Cherry Valley. The district has a population of 208,132 and it has been awarded twice the prestigious National Gold Medal for excellence in parks and recreation management. This neighborhood has 175 parks and such recreational facilities which are provided to the public.
