Carpenter Park is a 322 acre park situated on the north bank of the Sangamon River on the north side of the City. This park has been listed as the Illinois Nature Preserve. At present the park highlights upon wet mesic forest in the Sangamon river floodplain and dry mesic upland forest on top of a sandstone bluff. The park has white oak trees, along with hickory, black cherry and black walnut trees.
