The city of Urbana is located in Champaign County in the state of Illinois, USA. It acts as the county seat. Founded in 1833, Urbana has a twin city, Champaign. Champaign, Urbana, and the village of Savoy together form part of the Champaign-Urbana Metropolitan Area.

Colonised by the French and the British, this area and its surroundings were handed to the USA in the late eighteenth century. Urbana has an eclectic mix of people including a significant number of Asian and Hispanic people.

The annual average temperature is around 18°C. It is best to avoid travel between the months of November and February, when the temperature touches around –5°C.

With a population of around 37,300, most locals are engaged in commerce and industry. The city is home to well-reputed people such as Robert Holley and Edwin Krebs (both Nobel Prize winners).
