Incorporated as a city in 1859, Waukegan is located in Lake County in the state of Illinois, USA. This region has a rich history, originally being occupied by Native Americans. It was also a French trading post called ‘Little Fort’. Waukegan received its name from the Potawatomi (Indian tribe) equivalent of ‘Little Fort’.
The economic growth of this region was spurted by the construction of the railroad and, subsequently, industries.
The annual average temperature is around 18°C. It is best to avoid travel between the months of November and February, when the temperature is low.
With a population of around 87,900, most locals are engaged in commerce and industry. The city is significantly populated by African-Americans and Hispanics. Waukegan is home to notable people such as Ray Bradbury (writer) and Benjamin Kubelsky (comedian).
