Since Independence city is the birthplace of President Harry S. Truman, hundreds of tourists visit it every year. His house and the Presidential Library are the main attractions in the city.

The Bingham Waggoner Estate is a mansion that was restored along with its original furniture.

The National Frontier Trails Museum displays the historical development of Independence city. In the early days of the settlement of Independence, thousands of missionaries, gold seekers and emigrants came here.

The Chicago and Alton Depot is located in the museum itself. It is a 2 storey wooden depot that displays various artefacts.
