Bloomington has a very rich theater culture and is a home to many professional theater companies like the Broadway Entertainment Company. There are many amateur theaters that include the John Waldron Arts Center, the Monroe County Civic Theater and the Indian University Department of Theatrical Arts.
Buskirk-Chumley Theater
This theater has been renovated with over 616 seats and movie house built in the year 1922. The theater is known as the “Indiana Theater” and was operated as a movie theater until 1995. This is located in the heart of the downtown Bloomington. At present the theater is on a lookout for the best photographers in Bloomington for the Annual theater photo contest to be held from January 2009 till June 2009. Any photographers are invited whether they are amateur, semi professional or professional. The winner of the contest will be announced at the start of the Theater campaign in September 2009. Any aspiring contestants can apply by sending or by calling the given number on the official website of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
This theater hosts around 200 events in a year and is known as the busiest community theaters in the country.
Festivals
Chocolate festival
The visitors get to be the judge to the best tasting chocolate dessert. In this festival, there are two divisions that compete with each other and the local professionals judge the competition. After the winner is announced, the public is also invited to judge the chocolate desserts. Apart from this, there is also live jazz music that adds to the evening entertainment. This festival is a fund raiser for the option of better living, a local organization which benefits the individuals who are disabled.
Timings
This festival is held each year in the month of February from 1400 hours to 1600 hours.
