The Indiana State Capitol Building in Indianapolis is the home of the state’s General Assembly, as well as the office of the Governor of Indiana, the Supreme Court of Indiana, and other state officials. Built in 1888, it is located on West Washington Street and is the fifth building to house the state government.
Visitors who want to check out the Capitol Building can see its beautiful interior and exterior dome with splendid marble staircases and exquisite sculptures. One gets a sense that they are sitting on the steps of history in front of the building, similar to a trip to Washington, D.C.
Also of particular note are the many public artwork displays around the Capitol building. Located inside and around the Statehouse property are more than 40 public artworks that depict many important individuals and events related to the State of Indiana. For more information, check out www.in.gov.
