Lafayette is located in Tippecanoe County in the state of Indiana, USA. It is the county seat. Lafayette is part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. This city received its name in honour of the French general, Marquis de Lafayette, who participated in the American Revolution.
This region has a rich history, being occupied by Miami Indians. Originally a shipping town, the economic growth of Lafayette was spurred with the development of the railroad system. Lafayette was the site of the first official air mail delivery system in the USA.

With a population of around 60,400, most locals are engaged in commerce and industry. The city features several technology firms and manufacturing units.
