Merrillville is located in Lake County in the state of Indiana, USA. Originally called Wiggins Point, this town was a well-known stop for wagon trains headed towards Joliet, Illinois. Merrillville received its name in honour of the Merrill brothers, early community settlers. This region was incorporated as a town in 1971.
This region has a rich history, being occupied by Potawatomi Indians initially. It has an eclectic mix of people including African-Americans and Asians.
