Michigan City is located in LaPorte County in the state of Indiana, USA. Michigan City is part of the Chicago-Naperville-Michigan City Combined Statistical Area and the Michiana region (northern Indiana and south-western Michigan). The city was incorporated in 1836 and is named after Lake Michigan.

The economic development of this region began with the railroad freight car manufacturing. Retail trade, manufacturing and tourism form a major part of the economy.

The annual average temperature is around 14°C. It is best to avoid travel between the months of November and February, when the temperature is low.

With a population of around 39,200, most locals are engaged in commerce and industry. It has an eclectic mix of people including African-Americans, Asians and Hispanics.
