New Albany: Attractions and more...
Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site was home of ‘William Culbertson’, i.e. the richest individual all over Indiana once upon a time. Constructed in the year 1867; that too, at price of $120000; such a French ‘Second Empire-style’ mansion contains 25 rooms within an area of 1900 sq. Km. Its completion took place in the year 1869. James T. Banes, an architect of local caliber had designed it.
Features within this 3-storey edifice are inclusive of frescoed ceilings, hand-painted walls and ceilings, marble fireplaces, carved ‘rosewood cantilever’ staircase, fabric-quality wallpaper, and ‘crystal chandeliers’. Scotland was the place from where tin roof had been imported.
The objective of Culbertson Mansion is that to restore historic artifacts rather than renovating them; so as to protect home’s historical integrity.
