Richmond enjoys the privilege of being county seat pertaining to Wayne County.
Richmond got settled along Whitewater River’s East Fork in the year 1806 by North Carolina’s Quaker families. David Hoover and John Smith had been amongst the initial settlers. This place still houses a number of Quaker institutions inclusive of Earlham College, Earlham School of Religion, and Friends United Meeting.
Richmond has obtained reputation for its architecture which has gained historic importance in the bygone years. In the year 2003, a book that had been entitled ‘Richmond Indiana: Its Physical Development and Aesthetic Heritage to 1920’ by Mary and Michael Raddant Tomlan, architectural historians of Cornell University; had got published by Indiana Historical Society.
The population as per 2000 census was 39124.
