Whiting is a city which is located in Lake County in Indiana, United States. It is located directly on the southern shore of Lake Michigan. The city is around 16 miles from the Chicago Loop and us just 2 miles from Chicago’s South Side. Whiting is also home to some of the largest oil refinery in the Midwest. It is also home to the fourth largest oil refinery in the nation which is run by BO. This is a site which began its operation in the 1890s.

As per the United States Census Bureau, Whiting has a total area of 3.3 square miles, of which 1.8 square miles is land and 1.5 square miles is water.

According to the 2000 census, the population of the city was 5,137. The population density was 2,941 people per square mile.

The post office of Whiting serves Whiting city as well as the adjacent neighborhood cities like Hammond neighborhood of Robertsdale which is situated to the west of Whiting.
