Ankeny can be referred to as a city located in ‘Polk County, Iowa, US’.
It’s a portion of ‘Des Moines-West Des Metropolitan Statistical Area’. John Ankeny was the founder of this city. It’s evident from his name.
This discovery had taken place in the year 1874. Incorporation was followed on 28th of February, 1903. The year 1874 also marked the completion of a rail-road link between Des Moines and Ames (via Ankeny). It became operational from the year 1880.
At the time of Second World War, Ankeny had been a home to ‘federal ordnance plant’; which performed the task of manufacturing aluminum. Following the war, ‘Deere and Company’ went on to purchase the plant with regards to ‘Des Moines Works’; whereas ‘Iowa State University’ made use of remainder of land for research farm.
The area as per US Census Bureau is 43.4 sq. Km (all land). The population as per 2005 census was 36161. Per capita income had been $25143.
