Charles City is a city in Floyd County in Iowa in United States. It is also the county seat of Floyd County. This city has a significant commercial and transportation center for the area. It is located on U.S. Highways 18 and 218, the Canadian National and Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroads and Iowa Highway 14.
Charles City is known as the birthplace of the farm tractor in the early period of 1900 by the Hart-Parr Company. The owner of this company, Charles Walter Hart was born here.
The population was 7,812 as per the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.2 square miles of which 6.2 square miles is land and the other 0.1 square miles is water.
