At the Plum Grove Historic Farm, archaeological activities are carried out. These excavations are undertaken with an aim of increasing the understanding of Iowa frontier history and development in farming from 1844 to 1943. So far, the house septic system, several cisterns, the gardens from the Hughes period, a butchering trench filled with animal bones from the Switzer period and Lucas and Hoyt barns have been found.
