Johnston can be described as a city located in county of Polk, Iowa, US. It’s, in fact, a portion of Des Moines-West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Johnston is location of HQ of ‘Pioneer Hi-Bred’ Seeds, The Gardeners of America/Men’s Garden Clubs of America, and Iowa Public television. Moreover, it’s also a center of Camp Dodge Military reservation.
Johnston had been established in the year 1905 in the form of a station with regards to ‘interurban’ railway between Perry and Des Moines. It was named ‘Johnston Station’ then. The name ‘Johnston’ had been given in honor of John F. Johnston, freight supervisor of the railway.
Incorporation on the part of Johnston came on 18th of September, 1969. This led to annexure of Johnston Station area in to the city of Johnston.
As per US Census Bureau, area of Johnston on the whole comes out to be 40.1 sq. Km; out of which 7.36% consists of water.
According to census conducted in the year 2000, population of Johnston was 3216.
