One of the interesting facts about this place is that Le Mars is the largest producer of ice-cream in this region and is thus known as Ice Cream Capital of the world.
Le Mars was established in the year 1869 but there were no lots that were sold to any of the people until Railway construction stared. As per the legend of the town it is said that when John I Blair with a grop of ladies arrived and at the St Paul junction, they were told to name the town the ladies put forward their initials such as Lucy Underhill, Elizabeth Parson, Mary Weare, Anna Blair, Rebecca Smith and Sarah Reynolds.
