In the 2 bloodiest wars which involve US, this city, i.e. red Oak went on to pay a heavy price. In ‘American Civil War’, this region performed the task of providing more ‘Union Troops’/capita in comparison with the others all over the state of Iowa. Early battles pertaining to Second World War went on to claim an innumerable number of ‘soldiers’ from this city. In the year 1943 in the month of February when ‘Battle of the Kasserine Pass’ had taken place, 45 soldiers got captured; that too, solely from Red Oak. This city was then renamed as ‘victory ship’ to recognize extraordinary sacrifice on the part of Red Oak.
The population as per 2000 census was 6197.
