The Higgins Museum was opened in 1978 with the aim of the acquisition, preservation and display of notes and related materials for educational purposes. The visitors of this museum have the chance to see the largest collection of National Bank Note issues in the United States that are being permanently exhibited. These notes honor the banks, the towns and several individuals who have played important roles in the development of the country.
