Tourist Guide West Des Moines

West Des Moines is a city in Polk in Dallas. This city used to be home to the Fox and Sac tribes. Prior to January 1, 1938, this city was known by the name “Valley Junction”. West Des Moines is also the second largest city in the Des Moines metropolitan area and the 9th largest city in Iowa. This city has been ranked 94th in the Money magazine as the 100 best places to live and launch in the year 2008.

In 1957, this city had a population of around 5,615, but it grew as many new subdivisions were built in the decades ahead. As per the 2000 census, the city had a population of around 46,403. A special census was taken in the spring of 2005 and the population was estimated to 51,744.

The climate is continental and there are marked seasonal contrasts in the temperatures. As per the United States Census Bureau, West Des Moines has a total area of 27.6 square miles, of which 26.8 square miles is of land and 0.8 square miles is of water.
