This city expanded into Dallas County during the 1990s and 2000s. Some of the interesting places to be in this city are the Jordan Creek Town Center shopping mall which was established in 2004. There are also a lot of hotels, shopping centers and office buildings that catches the eye. For instance, one can visit the Wells Fargo corporate campus.

The Village of Ponderosa is one such urban-inspired and pedestrian friendly community.  At present, the city is the fastest growing city in Iowa as per the land mass. Then, there is the public library too which was opened in 1996. This library served as a temporary home for the West Des Moines city hall.

The City has a Park and Recreation department too which helps to improve the quality of life for the people with lots of recreational programs, open spaces and parks. Some of the interesting parks that can be visited are the Raccoon River Park Softball complex and the Valley View and Holiday Park Aquatic Center.
